Retrieve em right off the bottom on a sinking line and hang on tight cause the bows are known to take this pattern hard! A great searching pattern and a must have when the bows are intercepting the emergers bottom walk towards the shoreline vegetation! Over the many years of developing and testing fly patterns, once in a while we encounter an existing pattern that is hard to improve upon. Brian Chan's Kamloops Caddis Pupa is one of these classic fly patterns!  When the Traveller Sedge are hatching this is the fly to tie on to get in the game! Cast it out on a sinker, let it settle to the  bottom, and then retrieve in short strips to imitate the insects 45 degree short stroke swim to the surface. Or hang it under an indicator and let the breeze work it's magic. Either way you won't beat this fly pattern when the bows are focused on these big meal ticket items! Our opal hot spot variant adds just the right amount of kick to entice the most picky of trout and has proven worthy of earning itself a permanent component of the pattern. The 52 Buick was one of the first fly patterns that we successfully used to imitate caddis pupae, and since day one it's had a special place in our hearts! We fished the original religiously for many years, but like with most fly patterns, we began experimenting with variations and eventually got to the point where it consistently outperformed it's namesake.  It was still kinda, sorta, a 52 Buick, but not really. So in order to differentiate between the two, while still acknowledging it's roots, we dubbed the new fly the 53 Buick!  We have been successful trolling this fly,  retrieving it, and/or just suspending it gently wind drifting under an indicator.  As an added bonus, the 53 Buick also makes for a VERY effective Naked Caddis Larvae imitation! Either way you fish this super versatile caddis copier, it's tough to beat this fly when the bows are focused on sub surface Caddis!  Tied for you the exact same as we tie it for ourselves, including on the super strong Daiichi 1760 hook, get them while they're in stock as supplies are limited and they don't usually last long!

Over the years we have trialed a ton of different water boatman fly patterns and we always end up coming back to the Floater Boater! When the bows are on boatman, fishing a floating pattern on a sinking line can be a game changer! Cast out the Floater Boater on a full sink line, let the fly line sink to the bottom, and then retrieve in quick strips.  This will allow you to imitate the boatman's swim down to the bottom AND back up to the surface.  And fish tend to hammer this pattern in both directions so always hang on tight! The Floater Boater is the ultimate water boatman imitation. The perfect size and shape, long oar like swimmers, a shiny "air bubble" belly, and a red hot spot head that drives trout crazy! That's it! If you could only fish one water boatman pattern the Floater Boater floating water boatman is it!
